⚗️ Copper Sulphate (CuSO₄)
Traditional Mordant & Colour Modifier for Natural Dyeing
Copper Sulphate is a classic metallic mordant and dye modifier used in natural dyeing to create darker, richer shades and improve colorfastness. When applied to natural fibers, it shifts colours toward cooler, greener, or greyer tones, adding depth and variety to plant-based palettes.
It is especially effective with tannin-rich dyes such as walnut hulls, myrobalan, pomegranate, and gallnut, as well as with leaf-based greens like mulberry.
Key Features:
High-quality Copper Sulphate crystals (CuSO₄)
Acts as a mordant to help dyes bond to fibers
Produces unique blue-green, grey-green, and muted tones
Enhances light- and wash-fastness of many natural dyes
Suitable for wool, silk, cotton, linen, and paper
Dyeing Notes:
Use in very small amounts as a mordant or post-dye bath modifier
Shifts warm shades toward cooler earthy tones
Particularly effective with tannin-rich dyes
Can produce subtle green effects when combined with tannins
Suggested Use:
Mordanting: Use 1–3% WOF (Weight of Fibre)
As a colour modifier: Add a small amount to the dye bath after dyeing
Always dissolve fully in water before adding fibre
